The roof deck is the foundation every roofing system depends on. Soft, rotted, or improperly nailed decking will cause shingle failure, void manufacturer warranties, and allow moisture to continue spreading. Velkan replaces spot-damaged decking during re-roofing and performs full deck replacements on structures where deferred maintenance has compromised the entire surface. We use 7/16" or 1/2" OSB or CDX plywood depending on application and span.

Every inspection is photographed. The report you get names the component, its condition, and what it needs, so nothing rests on a verbal account of what somebody saw on your roof.

Decking cannot be honestly judged through shingles. The real assessment happens once the roof is stripped, which is why we do not quote decking blind and will not pretend to.
Every compromised area is marked and photographed with the extent recorded, so you can see exactly what was replaced and why.
If we find more than the scope allowed for, we stop and show you before adding a sheet. Nobody gets an invoice for decking they were never told about.
New sheathing is cut to land on rafters with proper edge support and the correct gap for expansion, fastened to the pattern the span requires.
Underlayment goes on over the repair before the crew leaves. An open deck does not sit overnight.

The Cumberland Plateau foothills load the southern end of the county with freezing rain rather than snow, and the sloped lots around Indian Fort Mountain funnel a whole roof's runoff to a couple of eave points instead of spreading it evenly.
Berea roofingWe assess decking condition during every tear-off by walking the surface after shingles are removed, soft spots indicate rot from below. We also probe suspect areas with a sharp tool. If more than 20-30% of panels show soft spots, full replacement is typically more economical than extensive spot repair. We document every damaged panel with photos before replacing.
